Radium Hot Springs to show off draft OCP

The Village of Radium Hot Springs will soon publicly debut its long-awaited draft official community plan (OCP).

The revised OCP represents some ‘Big Moves’ for the village, as it compiles public feedback and comments into a document that will guide council decisions for years to come.

Mayor Mike Gray says residents have previously brought up several priorities they want the Village to focus on.

“Where we’re going to concentrate our efforts on our business development, addressing the housing situation, planning for short-term vacation rentals and environmental protection,” said Gray.

“These were the key pieces of feedback that people wanted us to address, and the draft OCP takes the best shot that we feel is most appropriate right now. We’ll see how people respond to it – do we need to make changes or did we get it exactly right?”

In December, public engagement was a resounding success, with 272 surveys submitted.

Gray says he’s proud of how active the community has been in this process.

“We heard how passionate people are for Radium Hot Springs. People aren’t just living here, they love this place and they want to see this community be the best it can be moving forward,” said Gray.

“They want us to plan for the future and they want us to set up future residents for success. People seem to plan on staying here for as long as they can they want Radium to be as good as it can be.”

The next wave of public consultation will start with a public survey, launching Monday, April 14.

The survey will be available online or paper copies can be found at the Village office until May 5.

An in-person open house is scheduled for Tuesday, April 15 from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Radium Hot Springs Centre.

A virtual open house will happen the following day from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. for those who cannot attend the in-person session.

You can find more information and register for the virtual open house here.
