Federal election candidates to appear at East Kootenay forums

Candidates running for a seat as MP for Columbia–Kootenay–Southern Rockies will appear at six all-candidate forums in East Kootenay communities.

Incumbent Rob Morrison with the Conservative Party, NDP candidate Kallee Lins, the Liberal Party’s Reggie Goldsbury, Steven Maffioli of the Green Party, the PPC’s Laurie Baird and independent candidate Jim Wiedrick are invited to discuss issues that matter to voters.

All six representatives will be asked questions from the public and given an opportunity to share their party’s stance and platforms directly with potential voters.

Forums will start in Elkford on April 9 and roll through Kimberley, Cranbrook, Fernie, Sparwood and Invermere.

The events will be hosted primarily by local chambers of commerce, while Cranbrook’s forum will be hosted by JCI Kootenay.

  • Elkford – Wednesday, April 9 at 7 p.m.
    • Mountain Meadows Golf Club

  • Kimberley – Friday, April 11 at 5:45 p.m.
    • McKim Middle School
    • Candidate meet & greet will begin at 5:45 p.m.
    • Theatre doors for the moderated debate will open at 6:25 p.m.

  • Cranbrook – Monday, April 14 at 6:30 p.m.
    • Key City Theatre
    • Submit questions to [email protected] or the JCI Kootenay Facebook Page by 11:59 a.m. on April 14.
  • Invermere – Tuesday, April 15 at 6 p.m.
    • David Thompson Secondary School
    • Submit questions here by Thursday, April 10
  • Sparwood – April 16 at 6:30 p.m.
    • Causeway Bay Hotel – Emerald Room
    • Submit questions here.
  • Fernie – April 17 at 6:30 p.m.
    • Park Place Lodge
    • Submit questions and RSVP here.

Advance polls open from April 18 to 21, with general voting day set for April 28.
