Federal consumer carbon tax ends today; lower gas prices predicted to follow

Gas prices may have been rising over the past week or two, but we should see a big drop from today.

That’s when the federal consumer carbon tax will end, one of the first steps taken by Prime Minister Mark Carney when he assumed office.

Providing the oil companies pass on all the savings, there should be a decline of more than 17 cents a litre.

But it also means the end of the carbon tax rebate, meant to compensate Canadians for the money they spent on the tax.

The final payment will go out starting late next month.
