Cranbrook moves forward with proposed Wildstone Neighbourhood amendment

The Wildstone area could see a space carved out for a small commercial lot after Cranbrook City Council gave two readings to a pair of amendments.

The application would amend the Wildstone Neighborhood Plan OCP to allow for commercial development on a 13-hectare plot of land between McPhee Road and Highway 95a.

City officials say commercial development is not a significant part of the Wildstone neighbourhood, so commercial space will be limited to the proposed plot.

If adopted, the lot will be saved for a “small commercial enclave,” which could include convenience grocery, coffee shop, hotel and neighbourhood gathering place.

The amount, type and size will be determined as part of the zoning bylaw amendment.

City Council gave the official community plan amendment its second reading and the associated zoning amendment got its first and second reading.

Both bylaws will be submitted to the Advisory Planning Commission for recommendations ahead of a public hearing set for 6 p.m. on Monday, April 7.
