Cranbrook Street North commercial and residential development passes third reading

Cranbrook council has given third reading to a proposed development that would see a 37-unit apartment complex and commercial building be built on Cranbrook Street North.

The development went through a public hearing without a hitch before being given third reading.

The land is the former location of May May Restaurant and the old legion building which were destroyed by a fire around five years a go.

There was one concern brought up by a nearby business saying their work can be quite loud and an apartment complex might not be the best choice.

However, city staff didn’t have a problem with that as other residential buildings and hotels are in the surrounding area.

Planning manager Rob Veg says noise complaints are a possibility anywhere.

“I would expect that anyone who is moving into a place would take note of where they’re moving next door to, but unfortunately in doing this for over 20 years that doesn’t always stop people from complaining,” he said.

The apartment complex will consist of one bedroom units and one three-bedroom suite.

The commercial development will be for an automotive glass repair shop.
