Snowmobiler rescued from Pedley Pass avalanche

A snowmobiler is recovering after a close call with an avalanche on Thursday.

Columbia Valley Search and Rescue officials officials say a size 2.5 avalanche was toe-triggered by snowmobiles on Pedley Pass.

One person was completely buried about one metre deep.

Luckily their companion was able to dig them out and the snowmobiler was airlifted to Invermere for further medical care.

SAR officials say avalanche conditions are tricky right now.

While in the area, rescuers saw evidence of a second party remotely triggering a size 1.5 and 2.5 avalanche on a northwest-facing feature at Pedley Pass.

SAR officials are asking recreationists to be extra careful on solar-facing slopes and steep planar features.
