‘Embarrassing for all of us” Byram and Sabres continue to struggle

Cranbrook’s Bowen Byram and the Buffalo Sabres continue to lose games as the NHL trade deadline looms.

The Sabres are last in the Eastern Conference with a 24-30-6 record.

They suffered a bad 6-2 loss to the San Jose Sharks on Tuesday who are the worst team in the NHL.

“It all comes down to work ethic, details and execution. It’s tough. you never go into a game thinking that’s the way it’s going to go so it’s embarrassing for all of us,” Byram said in a postgame interview.

He says the team as a whole simply hasn’t been good enough this year.

“It’s not on anybody but ourselves, the guys in the dressing room,” he added.

You have to look yourself in the mirror and be honest with yourself. It’s a hard thing to do and it was unacceptable that happened.”

Despite the team’s losing ways, Byram has had a solid individual season.

He has seven goals, 22 assists and a career matching 29 points

Despite his encouraging stats, Byram says it doesn’t matter when the team is in a position where they aren’t playing meaningful games.

“It always sucks,” he said.

“Everyone always wants to play in meaningful games, but at the same time we put ourselves in this position.”

However Byram still may get the chance to play in meaningful games this season.

His name has been thrown around in recent trade talks and may be dealt by the trade deadline to a team in a better position.

Teams will be able to make trades until 1 p.m. Mountain Time on Friday.
