UPDATE: Police Incident Resolved in Wasa

Update (5:53 pm):

The ongoing police incident in Wasa on Wednesday has since been peacefully resolved by RCMP members.

Kimberley RCMP first responded to a mobile home park in the 6000-block of Highway 93/95 in Wasa after receiving a call around 11:40 pm on Tuesday, February 4, 2020. The initial reports to RCMP were that a 45-year-old man was “very distraught” and was believed to be alone inside his home and armed with a weapon.

The initial responding members from Kimberley RCMP contained the area around the man’s home in Wasa and called for the RCMP Southeast District Emergency Response Team and Crisis Negotiators to assist.

“The Southeast District Containment Team was also activated and responded to the scene, where they maintained containment of the home overnight and throughout the day.”

According to RCMP, the man exited his home around 4:30 pm on Wednesday following ongoing negotiations and was taken into police custody.

“The Kimberley RCMP wish to thank all those who were directly affected by the incident for their patience, understanding and full cooperation,” said Sgt. Chris Newel, Kimberley RCMP Detachment Commander.

No one was injured in the incident and the matter has been successfully resolved.

RCMP is actively responding to an unfolding “police incident” in Wasa, following a complaint received late Tuesday evening.

Kimberley RCMP has responded to the Wasa area and are currently dealing with the unfolding incident, along with the RCMP Southeast District Emergency Response Team (ERT) and specially trained negotiators.

“The incident is developing at this time, and police have contained a single residence,” stated Chris Newel, Kimberley RCMP Detachment Commander in a statement. “RCMP is asking the general public to avoid the Wasa area until such time as the situation is resolved.”

RCMP is asking the media and those on social media to refrain from publicizing the location of their officers as they respond, whether that be through videos, photographs, or posts on social media.

Police area releasing no further details about the incident as the situation is developing and ongoing.
