Ghostriders look for playoff redemption

The Fernie Ghostriders have made it back into the playoffs and will look to return to the cup final but are hoping for a better finish.

The Ghostriders were swept in the final by the Revelstoke Grizzlies.

Head coach Chad Scharff wasn’t the bench boss last year but says they have made some upgrades to the roster and was pleased with the results this season.

“When we came in here in the middle of August we understood the foundation and core group of players. We had a good group but we knew we had some work to do,” he said.

“We had to build a little bit on our back end but at the end of the day we felt like we had a team in place that was going to have some success if we could tighten up a little bit.”

But before the Ghostriders get redemption they will have to make it back to the final.

After finishing second in the Eddie Mountain Division, the Ghostriders will face the Columbia Valley Rockies in the first round.

“They are a really good hockey team. We’re going to have our work cut out for us,” he added.

“We’ve had a good hard fought regular season with them tied 3-3 so we’re expecting a long series and a hard fought battle.”

Game 1 is on Friday in Fernie. Puck drop is at 7 p.m.
