Sparwood council gives third reading to proposed zoning change

The District of Sparwood has given third reading to a zoning change that will reduce the lot size in R-3 zones for townhouses.

The proposed changes apply to all R-3 zones in the community but were brought forward to support townhouse developments in Westwood.

“An application was received from New Dawn Developments to reduce the minimum lot area from 205 square metres to 180 square metres per dwelling unit for townhouse development,” said planning and development director Patrick Sorfleet.

Sorfleet says there will be no changes to the number of required off-street parking spaces and it will not affect the minimum required lot area for apartments.

The proposed zoning changes will be sent to the Ministry of Transportation for approval before it will be up for adoption.
