Cranbrook RCMP investigating thefts in Highlands area

The Cranbrook RCMP is asking residents in the Highlands area to make sure they haven’t had anything stolen.

Police received a number of theft reports on Feb. 17. from properties and vehicles in the Highlands area.

The thefts appear to have occurred between 4 and 6 p.m.

Residents should check their properties and inside their vehicles to make sure nothing was taken.

Anyone with security footage of suspicious people in the area is asked to contact the local detachment.

S/Sgt Barry Graham says they are looking to up the community’s involvement in policing to help reduce this type of crime.

This includes groups like the RCMP Auxiliary Program that partners police with trained volunteers.

“We are always looking for volunteers. Our community engagement coordinator has been trying to build all of our programs and we will be doing a renewed recruiting drive to try and get more people through,’ he added.

“We do have challenges when it comes to security clearances and it’s not a quick process.”

The RCMP has a number of requirements for those looking to take part in volunteer patrols.

You must be 19 years old or older, have a clean driving record for the past five years and pass a police records and background reference check.
