Fernie budget grind continues

The City of Fernie wrapped up a budget meeting this week, but there’s more in the way as council still looks to finalize their five-year financial plan.

This year’s budget will likely include nearly $18 million in capital projects.

“Our proposed plan for this year is $17.7,” said finance director Bryn Burditt.

“This figure is not all new projects, it includes approximately $5 million of carry-forward projects from 2024.”

Council has yet to decide what the tax levy increase for this year will be.

A special budget meeting on Feb. 26 will focus on the tax rate.

Before that on Feb. 10, the city and Fernie Chamber of Commerce will be holding an open house for members and future members.

It runs from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the senior citizens drop-in centre.

A full public open house is also scheduled for Feb. 19 at the same location.

The five-year financial plan is expected to be adopted by council on March 25.
