Cranbrook council gives their okay for RDEK referral

Cranbrook council has given their support for a proposed RDEK bylaw amendment.

The RDEK referred a proposed OCP and zoning amendment to the city for comment.

The applicant of a property located at 3518 Playle Road wants to subdivide the parcel to create two two-hectare lots and one additional 5.05-hectare lot.

The city’s policy states that applications for development on the urban fringe are not supported until a coordinated inter-municipal/urban fringe growth plan is conducted by the city and RDEK.

However, council was not concerned with this proposal and decided to give the RDEK their okay.

“It’s a couple of five-acre lots. I don’t think it’s a big issue. We don’t have an abundance of five-acre lots,” said councillor Wes Graham.

“If it was chomping down into half acres it would raise a bit of a flag, but I think it’s pretty straightforward.”

It will be up to the RDEK at this point to approve or deny the proposed amendments.

That will be decided at a future RDEK board meeting.
