Cranbrook RCMP apprehend battery bandit

The Cranbrook RCMP has arrested one suspect after batteries were stolen from Cranbrook Toyota yesterday around 8 a.m.

Surveillance footage showed that an extended cab pick-up truck drove through a secure fence causing extensive damage and upwards of 20 vehicle batteries were stolen from Cranbrook Toyota.

Later that morning, police were able to obtain the license plate of a possible suspect vehicle and it shared it around the region.

Officers with the Kimberley RCMP located the vehicle and arrested the suspect.

Police say a significantly higher number of batteries than those identified as stolen from Cranbrook Toyota were found in the suspect’s possession, which they believe were stolen from other businesses.

The Cranbrook RCMP is asking local businesses to check their inventories to see if anything is missing.

The suspect has been released from police custody and will be appearing in court on March 31, 2025.
