Dynamiters come out on top in Ghostriders season series

The rival Kimberley Dynamiters and Fernie Ghostriders have faced each other for the last time in the regular season with the Nitros taking the win.

The Dynamiters beat the Ghostriders five out of six times this season with their final game a 3-2 overtime win on Friday, Jan. 24.

Nitros head coach Derek Stuart says he liked what he saw from his team.

“It was a pretty solid game by us defensively. We didn’t give up much five-on-five and I thought we played really well in a hard rink to play in,” he said.

“I thought everyone was pretty solid. We got goals three different ways, our powerplay, our third line got a goal and a defenceman got the winner. Everyone contributed pretty well.”

Ghostriders head coach Chad Scharff would have liked the two points but he was happy with his team’s effort.

“Overall it was a well-rounded game by both teams,” he said.

“It was two really good teams that battled it out and at the end of the day when you get to overtime anything can happen so it is what it is.”

While the two rivals have fought for the last time on the ice this regular season, they are still battling each other for the top team in the Eddie Mountain Division.

The Dynamiters are in first place with 55 points while the Ghostriders are in third with 47, but they have three games in hand.
