Cranbrook council approves path to 2042

Cranbrook city council has approved its new official community plan, which will be the community’s guiding document for the next 20 plus years.

The OCP has been three years in the making and replaces the previous document put in place back in 2006.

The document serves as a statement of the objectives and policies of the local government.

“I would like to thank staff for their hard work and patience in the development of this new official community plan, which will help to address housing concerns and provide a new vision and direction for future development in Cranbrook,” said Mayor Wayne Price.

“A special thank you to the many residents and businesses who provided their valuable ideas and comments which really helped shape this plan.”

The new OCP builds upon the previous one but also features new components including policies on social well-being, food security and climate action.

There are also updates to the development permit area guidelines and map schedules.

City staff say no changes were made to the existing neighbourhood plans, but there will likely be amendments in the future.

The full 300-page OCP can be found here.
