Sparwood Fire Department calls down in 2024

The Sparwood Fire Department had a busy year but responded to fewer incidents in 2024.

The department responded to 157 incidents in 2024 compared to 177 in 2023.

July to September was the busiest quarter with 47 responses.

While calls for service were down compared to 2023, more firefighters were involved with training.

“Although we’re slightly down in total responses it looks like memberships and stuff like that are all climbing,” Councillor John Baher said.

“I think it’s all in part to Sheldon Tennant’s team doing such a good job and keeping us safe each and every day. Thank you to you and your team.”

Alarms made up most of the department’s calls in 2024 with 59 followed by motor vehicle incidents.

However, motor vehicle incidents were down quite a bit falling from 48 in 2023 to 27 in 2024.
