Move, slush, get out the way – Fernie students name snow plows

They heard there’s snow out, so they brought the plows out and let Fernie’s preschool and elementary school students name the city’s fleet.

The winners of Fernie’s 2024 Snowplow Naming Contest are:

  • Buzz Iceclear – Ms. Bell’s Tuesday/Thursday afternoon class at Bright Beginnings.
  • Snowbro 2.0 – from Ms. Jackson’s Grade 3 class at Isabella Dicken Elementary.
  • Olaf – from the Outdoor Connections Forest School.
  • Snowy Llama – from Ms. Ludu’s Grade 2 class at the Fernie Academy
  • Croque-Mitaine – from Ms. Girard Beaudoin’s Grade 2/3 class at Ecole Sophie Morigeau.

“Five pieces of winter equipment will be labelled with the winning names, so keep your eyes peeled for Snowbro 2.0 clearing your street and Buzz Iceclear tackling snow to infinity and beyond,” said the City of Fernie.

Winning classes will have an opportunity for a tour of the city’s winter maintenance equipment.

“We’re looking forward to hosting this year’s winners at the Operations Facility in the new year to see these big machines up close (we’ll be warning everyone to keep their mittens safe from Croque-Mitaine!) and learn more about our winter operations,” said the city.
