Dynamiters look to maintain top spot ahead of Christmas break

The Kimberley Dynamiters will try to keep their first-place position in the Eddie Mountain Division heading into the break with the Fernie Ghostriders hot on their heels.

The Dynamiters are coming off a two-win weekend defeating the Golden Rockets 4-2 and the Castlegar Rebels 8-2.

“I thought in both games we got better as the game went on,” said head coach Derek Stuart.

“Especially Friday we got to a point where we played the way we want to play and it was a much more recognizable Dynamiters team.”

The Nitros will have a rematch with the Rockets this Friday followed by the third-place Grand Forks Border Bruins.

“For me, Golden is a lot better than their record states. They’re not easy to play and can all skate,” he said.

“Grand Forks is one of the top teams in the league and it will be nice to get another game in against them. We weren’t very good in their rink a couple of weeks ago so we’re looking for a little bit of redemption on Saturday.”

The Dynamiters are first in the Eddie Mountain Division with 37 points but the Ghostriders are right behind with 36 points.

The Ghostriders have three games in hand on the Nitros.
