Winter storm warning issued for Elk Valley

Elk Valley residents will want to be prepared as heavy snow is expected to hit the region.

Environment Canada says a winter storm will hit this afternoon and last until Wednesday afternoon.

The region could see 20-30 centimetres of snow over that time.

Environment Canada warns that roads and highways will be difficult to navigate and visibility will be limited.

Once the snow lets up, rain is expected on Wednesday afternoon.

Environment Canada says this could lead to rapidly changing conditions on the road.

A special weather statement is also in place for the rest of the Kootenays.

Ten to 15 centimetres of snow is expected.
