Another split weekend for Rockies

The Columbia Valley Rockies head coach says they need to start stringing together some wins after another split over the weekend.

“It’s becoming a theme to go one and one over the weekend,” said head coach Tayler Sincennes.

“We need to do a better job showing up for both games and giving 120 minutes of effort instead of 85 or 90.”

The Rockies lost 8-3 to the Merritt Centennials and Sincennes wasn’t happy with the effort.

“Too many guys trying to poke and hope for breakaways and just not playing the game the right way,” he added.

They followed it up with a 4-3 win over the Kelowna Chiefs.

The Rockies are back at home on Friday to face the Creston Valley Thunder Cats and then take a quick trip up to Golden to battle the Rockets.

They’ll be a hard-fought battle. I know they’re below us in the standings but Creston has been playing some better hockey recently and so is Golden,” he added.

“They’re both competitive teams. Anybody can beat anybody in our division so we need to be ready to go on Friday and Saturday night.”

The Rockies have dropped to third in the division with a 13-10 record, with the Fernie Ghostriders moving into second place.
