Rockies coach impressed with forward Cerone

Columbia Valley Rockies forward Ethan Cerone continues to find the back of the net and now leads the team in goals.

Head coach Tayler Sincenens says he’s been consistent all season and put up a great effort over the weekend.

“He had three goals in two games including the game-winner on Saturday night. He’s a guy that’s picked away at the offence,” he said.

“He’s leading our team in goals, which I didn’t realize until I looked yesterday and is top 10 in goals in the league. He’s done an excellent job of quietly going about his business.”

The Rockies split their weekend games losing 5-3 to the Kamloops Storm on Friday, followed by a close 3-2 overtime win against the Grand Forks Border Bruins.

“I thought we played okay in the Kamloops game. We showed up and had a good start but they scored first and kind of put us behind the 8-ball,” Sincennes added.

“They took a couple of quick ones in the first on top of that and we were just chasing the game. It’s hard to win hockey games when you’re down 3-1. It’s really hard to come back from down two in this league.”

He says they had a slow start on Saturday but were able to get the game under control and get the win.

“Saturday we started a little slow and lethargic and took a little bit to settle in, but I thought we did a really good job defending,” he said.

“We did a really good job killing penalties the whole night, blocking shots and doing the little things the right way.”

The Rockies are now 12-9 on the season for second in the Eddie Mountain Division.
