Kootenay-Rockies MLA named Shadow Minister for Mining, Critical Minerals and Columbia Treaty

Kootenay-Rockies MLA Pete Davis has been appointed as the BC Conservative Party’s Shadow Minister for Mining, Critical Minerals and Columbia Treaty.

Davis says his new role will fit well, given the importance of mineral extraction to the riding’s economy.

“Mining is a huge part of what we do in Kootenay-Rockies. I want to be a part of making sure the industry continues to thrive,” said Davis.

The MLA says his goal is to speed up the provincial regulatory process.

“There are 17 mines in B.C. that are permitted or ready to be permitted. We want to make sure the NDP doesn’t hold those up with permits that don’t make sense,” said Davis.

“We’re going to make sure we’re holding the Minister of Mining and Critical Minerals accountable for moving things forward.”

Davis says he will work with Kootenay-Columbia MP Rob Morrison on the Columbia River Treaty negotiation process.

Meanwhile, building on his previous connections to the Elk Valley’s mining industry.

“I’m going to get out there and build some relationships with people in the mining industry,” said Davis.

“I want to make sure they know there’s someone out here who is going to speak for them in Victoria and make sure they’re heard and respected.”

He says he is eager to take the role of Shadow Minister.

“It’s a very honouring thing to be a part of this portfolio and I’m looking forward to working with the people of Kootenay-Rockies,” said Davis.
