Invermere partners with Housing Society for potential projects

The District of Invermere has signed on to an agreement in principle with the Columbia Valley Housing Society for a pair of potential rental complexes.

Mayor Al Miller says the agreement focuses on a pair of properties: 214 10th Avenue and 609 12th Avenue.

“They’ve been identified for potential multi-family housing,” said Miller.

“The Housing Society has been doing their part to see how they could put some building for rental housing. We decided we would work with the Columbia Valley Housing Society to come up with an investigation to see how this would work.”

Miller says rental units in particular are in short supply in Invermere.

“We have a workforce that desperately needs housing,” said Miller.

“We need to get some good rental units here to put a roof over their heads.”

If the proposed rental units become a reality, they will be managed by the Columbia Valley Housing Society.

Miller says the Columbia Valley Housing Society will be a good partner for relieving pressure off Invermere’s strained housing market.

“The Housing Society has expertise levels of all sorts, from lawyers, to financial, to real estate experts, you name it. They’re people who know the industry and know how to navigate it” said Miller.

“We decided to put our efforts behind this society and give them some dollars to match up with other funding sources and let them do the work they can do best.”

The Housing Society will make more steps in the future to see if these potential rental homes are a good fit for Invermere.
