Local businesses honoured in annual Cranbrook Chamber awards

Cranbrook’s business community took to the Key City Theatre stage for the Chamber of Commerce’s business excellence awards.

The business of the year with 16+ employees went to the Steeples Veterinary Clinic.

“It was an amazing thing to get for our team and our entire staff that work so hard for this all the time,” said Andrew Skaien.

“It’s such a nice thing to bring it back home to the clinic.”

The Choice Shop came home with the award for retailer excellence.

Co-owner and Cranbrook councillor Mike Peabody says they strive for great customer service.

“Our motto is regardless if a customer buys something or not, we want them to leave the store with a good experience,” he said.

“We want them leaving with a smile on their face. That’s something we try to instill in all of our staff. We want people to be excited when they come and excited when they leave.”

He says events like this are an important way to show appreciation to all the businesses in the community.

“The city relies heavily on the business community. They’re a major part of our tax base and it’s a major reason why people live here,” he added.

“If we don’t have a thriving business economy we’re not going to have a thriving community and the city in general would die a slow and painful death.”
