Changes coming to Cranbrook transit fare system

BC Transit’s fare system in Cranbrook will fully change over to Umo, replacing paper DayPASS, 10 Ride Ticket, Adult Monthly Pass, and Student/Senior Monthly Pass fare products.

The system will be fully integrated into Umo, which will be available through an app, a reloadable card, online or through Umo customer service.

Cash and the BC Bus Pass will still be accepted, while retired tickets and fare products will be accepted until they are used up.

Fare product changes will be as follows:

  • Cash Balance – This will operate as an alternative to cash, and represents a pre-paid dollar amount loaded onto the Umo app or reloadable card. This value is used to pay for single rides or other set fare products.
  • Digital transfer – This will remove the need to collect and retain paper transfer slips and is automatically applied to your Umo account. Riders can use this method within a 90-minute transfer window to continue travel without taking on additional charges.
  • DayPASS – This replaces the scratch-off paper version and provides unlimited all-day travel. A DayPASS will be necessary if you are taking multiple buses outside of a 90-minute window.
  • 10 Rides – The digitized version of the previous paper system will offer 10 rides at the same discounted rate.
  • 30-Day Passes – This replaces the previous Monthly Pass and can be activated any day of the month and provides unlimited rides for a 30-day period. This will be activated upon purchase.

BC Transit officials say the change will go ahead on December 1, and riders who have not transitioned over to Umo are encouraged to visit the BC Transit website.
