55-year-old man found dead in Kootenay National Park

A 55-year-old man was found deceased in Kootenay National Park after he was reported as missing the day before.

Columbia Valley RCMP officials say the man wandered away from an RV in Kootenay National Park on Saturday night.

He did not return and his disappearance was reported to police on Sunday, Oct. 20.

Police say the search was suspended due to darkness and operations resumed on Monday with help from Parks Canada Search and Rescue.

The team arrived with a search dog and helicopter to cover the air and ground simultaneously.

“Sadly, in the early afternoon, the male was located deceased in the Vermilion River,” said Columbia Valley RCMP.
