Sparwood applying for grant to offset costs of leisure centre upgrades

The District of Sparwood is applying for a federal grant of up to $2.99 million to be used for upgrades to the leisure centre.

If the grant application is successful, funds will be used for retrofits and repairs in the leisure centre.

“There are many projects in the pipeline that align with this grant opportunity and it would be prudent for the district to apply,” said community services director Jenna Jenson.

“The grant can also cover projects that have already been completed.”

Money could potentially be used to cover the cost of the hot tub and pool deck tile replacement that took place last year.

As part of the application, the district is required to contribute 20 per cent of the cost of the grant.

The district has set aside $600,000 in the 2025-2029 financial plan in case of a successful application.
