Busy summer for Cranbrook water ambassador

The City of Cranbrook has been seeing improvements in water conservation and the water ambassador program has helped spread the word.

Ambassador Tanya Nadeau had a busy summer teaching the importance of water conservation to residents young and old.

“Through her four-month term, she attended 25 classrooms in seven different schools doing our elementary education program,” said project manager Katelyn Pocha.

“After that program finished she did irrigation assessments at 17 households and did a lot of monitoring to educate residents on our water restrictions.”

She also partnered with bylaw officers to speak to residents who were watering outside of the permitted hours.

While not everyone followed the watering restrictions this summer, Mayor Wayne Price says more people are starting to.

The city’s water usage was down quite a bit compared to last summer.

“Thank you to the citizens of Cranbrook this year,” Price said.

“We made the call to the public to curb water use and be proactive and we came through very well.”

A report showing the specifics of Cranbrook’s water usage is expected to be completed later this month.
