Wildfire triggers tactical evacuation in Baynes Lake area

The Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) has called a tactical evacuation along Saunders and Palmer Roads in the Baynes Lake Area.

RDEK officials say emergency responders are conducting the tactical evacuation as a result of a wildfire that broke out on Monday afternoon.

The B.C. Wildfire Service said the fire is estimated at 0.009 hectares in size.

Firefighters are on the scene taking on the blaze.

“The BC Wildfire Service uses a full response when there is a threat to public safety and/or property and other values, such as infrastructure or timber,” said the BC Wildfire Service.

“During a full response, a wildfire is suppressed and controlled until it is deemed out.”

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
