Rock slope remediation to cause delays through Kootenay National Park

Rock slope remediation work will cause some delays for drivers heading through Kootenay National Park this month.

Parks Canada officials said work will focus on the southern end of Highway 93 at various sites between Kootenay west gate and Olive Lake.

Crews will be active seven days a week, excluding long weekends, from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. working on one site at a time.

“This work is critical to ensure the highway is protected, preventing accidents, and avoiding damage to infrastructure,” said Parks Canada.

Drivers can expect some delays as speed reductions to 30 kilometres per hour will be in place while construction is underway.

Regular closures may delay commuters further, but Parks Canada said they will be limited to a maximum of 20 minutes.

Parks Canada expects the job to be wrapped up by Sept. 30.
