The Columbia Valley Community Foundation (CVCF) is giving out $145,000 to three projects aimed at bolstering food security in the Valley.
The money comes from the B.C. government’s Community Prosperity Fund, which can be used to advance poverty reduction and social inclusion.
The CVCF has given grants to the following organizations:
- Columbia Valley Food and Farm – $128,250
- Their portion of the grant will be used to launch a food recovery program for the region.
- Columbia Basin Alliance for Literacy – $9,750
- The Alliance for Literacy will use its funding for a Cooking & Wellness Project.
- Windermere District Farmers Institute – $7,000
- The grant to the Windermere District Farmers Institute will be used to create nutrition coupons.
“The Columbia Valley Community Foundation is grateful for this opportunity to create a meaningful impact in the area of food security in our community”, says CVCF Executive Director, Thiloma Hofer.
“More than a third of the applications to this program addressed food insecurity; it is clearly a key concern for many of our community partners and the people of the Columbia Valley.”
The Community Prosperity Fund can be distributed to recipients over time, up to three years, to cover operational expenses or project delivery.
“The Community Prosperity Fund supports vital non-profits that serve communities in B.C.,” said the CVCF.
“Recipients funded are important partners, often providing services to those made vulnerable in all corners of British Columbia.”
