Pair of major wakesurfing events coming to Lake Koocanusa

Two major wakesurfing events will hit the waves of Lake Koocanusa this weekend.

The Canadian National Wakesurf Championships and Competitive Wakesurfing Association (CWSA) North American Championships will both bring excitement and high-tier competition to the lake.

“This is going to be an action-packed weekend with incredible riding,” said organizing committee member Loree Duczek.

“The Wake Canada Canadian Nationals, presented by SWS Marine Group, kick off Saturday morning and will feature riders in every division from the up-and-coming junior riders to Canada’s top surfers in the men’s and women’s pro divisions.”

The National Championships will hit the waves on Sept. 7 at Koocanusa Village, with competitions to last through the day.

Competitions will continue on Sunday with the North American Championships, which will bring together riders competing on the CWSA circuit.

This event will be a stepping stone for competitors to get into the world championships in Switzerland in October.

Competitions are open to spectators and the public is invited to check it out.

“Bring a lawn chair and enjoy the music, food, and fun as we celebrate the wakesurf community and support all the riders who are so passionate about their sport,” said Duczek.
