Edgewater Fire Department responds to fuel spill

Firefighters were able to quickly contain a fuel spill at a commercial location in Edgewater on Tuesday afternoon.

“The spill occurred when a pipe burst while the driver was offloading fuel,” said Columbia Valley Rural Fire and Rescue Chief Drew Sinclair.

“We believe approximately 200 litres of gasoline escaped and our team did an excellent job of quickly containing the spill.”

Eight firefighters and two apparatus responded to the scene.

The store was able to remain open and neighbouring property owners were notified, but no evacuations were required.

The fuel company has dispatched a spill response officer and the Ministry of Environment has been notified and will take the lead on the spill response and clean-up.

This is the second fuel spill this week. On Aug 19, a similar spill occurred at the Shell gas station in Jaffray.
