Rock the Kootenays boosting Cranbrook’s economy

Local businesses are expecting some increased traffic as the 2024 Rock the Kootenays music festival gets underway.

This is the second year in a row for the festival and Mayor Wayne Price says last year’s was a huge success.

“Last year was the first time we tried something of that scale so we took the risk and at the end of the day, it was extremely successful,” he said.

He said Cranbrook saw a large number of visitors.

“Last year you couldn’t get a hotel room and all the RV Parks were full,” Price added.

“I went around to local restaurants last year the week after and it was record sales over the weekend.”

This year the city is allowing camping at Moir Park to accommodate the concertgoers.

Price is anticipating another success.

“The way ticket sales are going now, we’re extremely optimistic. It’s the chat and the vibe around town right now. Everybody can’t wait to rock the Kootenays.”

The festival runs from Aug. 9-11.
