Palliser/Cross River Area under evacuation order in response to Ravenshead fire

The Palliser/Cross River area is under an evacuation order as the Ravenshead wildfire is fanned by winds and dry conditions.

The evacuation order was put in place by the Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) on Thursday and impacts nine properties.

This includes Nipika Mountain Resort, Cross River Education and Retreat Centre, Cross River Forest Service Road and Cross River Canyon Recreation Site.

“A tactical evacuation was executed this morning by BC Wildfire and the Evacuation Order will remain in effect until further notice,” said Information Officer, Loree Duczek.

“This is also a popular recreation area and we are encouraging all residents to ensure they are paying attention to the latest updates and any additional area closures or restrictions that may be implemented in this area.”

The fire has grown to 4,702 hectares since it was discovered on Wednesday.
