Kootenay soccer team wins bronze

The Kootenay boy’s soccer team earned the bronze medal at the 2024 BC Summer Games.

“The boys showed character, talent and a passion for the game,” said head coach Ivan Nikolov.

“It was a very competitive tournament.”

The team defeated the Fraser Valley team 5-0 to get the bronze.

Nikolov said it’s the Kootenay’s first soccer medal and will add some pressure to future teams.

“It means a lot. It sets a new standard and new expectations,” he added.

“In two years or in the future that’s the level they need to achieve or go beyond that because that’s what the community will expect.”

The team was made up of nine players from Nelson, five from Kimberley and Cranbrook, two from Invermere, two from Castlegar and one from Fernie.
