Elk Valley RCMP assists with Lake Koocanusa medical call

Elk Valley RCMP has come to the aid of BC Ambulance to get a youth experiencing a medical issue while on a houseboat at Lake Koocanusa.

First responders got the call just before noon on July 10 and Elk Valley RCMP officers were able to transport Emergency Health Services attendants to the houseboat with their police vessel.

Staff Sergeant Svend Nielsen said they were already on the way to the lake to conduct boat patrols.

“Our vessel is currently moored at a local site on Lake Koocanusa for ease of access and response,” he said.

“Further patrols are done through the week by officers on the roadways and campsites, working to enforce applicable legislation and improve safety in the South Country.”

Nielsen said they will be upping their presence during the summer.

“Elk Valley Regional RCMP recognizes the need for more proactive enforcement in the South Country and, like last year, is completing regular and sporadic boat patrols in order to ensure the safe use of our waterways and lakes,” he added.

The youth and his mother were transported to shore where BC Ambulance took them to the hospital for treatment.
