Pilot killed in helicopter crash near Invermere

A helicopter pilot was killed in a crash south of Invermere on Tuesday, July 2.

Columbia Valley RCMP got a call about the crash near Brewer Creek at around 7 p.m.

Police officials said a ranch owner was piloting a privately owned helicopter with two passengers on board.

“Search and Rescue crews were deployed to the area and located the helicopter, and sadly the pilot was deceased,” said RCMP spokesperson Cpl. James Grandy.

Both passengers were found and taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening.

“The Columbia Valley RCMP is assisting both the BC Coroners Service and the Transportation Safety Board with the ongoing investigation,” said Cpl. Grandy.

The investigation is still in its early stages, so the deceased pilot’s name has not been released.
