Cranbrook looking for feedback on EV charging plan

Cranbrook residents are invited to share their thoughts on the future of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations in the community.

This comes as the city works to develop its Community Electric Vehicle Charging Plan, which focuses on exploring opportunities to improve Cranbrook’s electric vehicle charging infrastructure.

The plan will include options for publicly accessible charging stations and policy guidance to adapt to EVs.

“The City is preparing for the transition to more electric vehicles. They’re becoming quite well-adopted in B.C., including Cranbrook,” said Evan Berry, Environment and Energy Specialist.

“They’re just going to be more prevalent as time goes on.”

A survey has opened up for residents to share their thoughts on where charging stations should go.

“We need to know where we’re going to put these charges, how we’re going to facilitate and build these chargers to make sure we’re going to have enough for everyone,” said Berry.

All survey responses will be kept anonymous and participants can choose to enter a draw to win a $50 gift card for Encore Brewing Company once it is completed.

“The number of electric vehicles on the road is increasing rapidly in BC, and according to the BC ZEV Act, 100 per cent of all new light-duty vehicles sold in 2035 and beyond will be zero emissions,” said  Berry.

“We want to ensure that Cranbrook is prepared for the
continued shift to electric vehicles, and we need feedback to help make it happen.”

The survey is open until Friday, July 5 and you can find it here.
