Water investigation to begin Monday in Fernie

Contractors will be onsite in Fernie to continue investigations for an alternative secondary drinking water supply.

“It’s become evident over the past few years that our James White wells are subject to selenium,” said Mayor Nic Milligan.

“We can’t rely on them 100 per cent for backup supply or as a secondary source, so we’ve drilled a couple of test wells in an adjacent watershed and want to determine what flows are like there and what the water quality is.”

Crews will be starting work on June 17 and should warp up by June 20.

The well site is located near the Purple Monkey Dishwasher trail.

Access to the trail may be controlled and the public is asked to avoid the area while work is underway.
