Records broken at Balfour Golf Tournament

Golfers from across the province have wrapped up the 119th Women’s Amateur competition out at Balfour Golf Course this week.

In the end it was Langley’s Amy Sueng Hyun Lee who took the title, and set a new course record with a 67.

The course record took another notch on the final day when second place winner, Ha Young Chang scored a 65.

As Balfour’s first ever provincial tournament, General Manager Craig Wilkinson says it has opened the door for more down the track.

“It was absolutely amazing, we had such strong community support out here, every player to a tee pretty much said it was one of the best events that they’d ever attended.” said Craig.

“They want to come back in the somewhat short term to hopefully host the British Columbia Senior Men’s Championship, which will be a much larger scale event,”

“They’re just so happy with the golf course and the conditioning and the volunteers.”

Results

Winner, Amy Sueng Hyun Lee, shot a three-round total of 11 under, to help secure the crown. Lee is the defending BC Junior Champion as well as winning the under 15 and under 17 divisions, and at just 16 years of age she can add BC Ladies Amateur to her accolades.

Local Kootenay players who took part include Procter’s Jackie Little, Balfour’s Roma Crispin, Castlegar’s Kim Matson, Grand Forks’ Shauna Lim, and Kimberley’s Shannon Bjarnason.

Jackie Little placed high in the Master contingent of the event. She finished 11th overall for the tournament.
