Jaffray Fire Department takes down RV fire

The Jaffray Fire Department took down an RV fire near Tie Lake on Monday afternoon.

“We were alerted to the fire by recreationalists who happened across the burning structure while they were out on their ATVs,” said Elk Valley and South Country Rural Fire & Rescue Chief Michael Hockley.

“Upon arrival, it appears as though the fire may have started sometime overnight and the trailer is a full loss.”

RDEK officials said six firefighters responded with four pieces of apparatus.

However, the remote location presented a challenge and the crew could only access the fire with their small wildland engines.

“There was no sign of occupants in or around the trailer and, at this time, it appears that no one was home at the time the fire broke out.”

Firefighters remained on the scene through the afternoon to make sure any remaining hot spots were snuffed out.

“I want to thank the members of the public for calling it in,” said Hockley.

“It is so important for us to have those eyes and ears across the region who are willing to call things in when they see them.”

The course of the fire is still under investigation and anyone who knows the owner of the RV is asked to contact the RCMP or the Jaffray Fire Department.
