RDEK developing additional camping at Wycliffe Regional Park

The Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) is looking to add new campsites at the Wycliffe Regional Park to increase recreational opportunities in the area.

“The 164-hectare park currently offers a host of amenities including everything from hiking and biking trails to horseshoe pits, disc golf, ball diamonds, and picnic areas,” said recreation and control services supervisor Jamie Davies.

“We are proposing to develop 20 non-serviced seasonal campsites including 10 tenting/small trailer sites in an undeveloped treed area and 10 pull-through sites along the existing hayfield.”

A request for proposal for a contractor to oversee the campground development ended on May 8.

The RDEK board is expected to award a contract sometime this summer.

A detailed timeline of when the campsites will be constructed and slated to open will be available once the contractor has been chosen and a work plan is done.

“There will be no impacts to existing amenities with the addition of these seasonal campsites, and our goal is to increase public access to enjoy the beautiful scenery and recreational opportunities within the park and surrounding area,” added Davies.

The development was made possible due to $518,223 from the provincial government.
