Triton swim meet a splashing success

Swim clubs from around B.C. battled it out at the Western Financial Place for the 2024 Swim Wars Spring Invitational.

President of the Triton Swim Club Phil Aston said the turnout was great.

“We have 115 people and they’re from Vernon, our club, and we’ve got the Radium, Nelson and Fernie swim teams.”

This is the second meet since the pandemic and Aston said it’s the most participants they’ve seen in a while.

“We had a bit of a hiatus with swim meets during COVID,” he added.

“This is our second since COVID and the biggest one we’ve done for a long time.”

He said the Tritons have been growing in numbers.

“We’ve got swimmers from ages 6-80 and we’re pushing 80-90 swimmers in our club.”

The swim meet took a lot of work to pull off and wouldn’t have been possible without help from parents.

“We’ve been planning for probably about six weeks,” Aston said.

“There’s a lot of parent involvement and probably 50 volunteers that we need to run an event this size.”
