Weed control work to happen along North Star Rails to Trails

Some grant funding will go towards some noxious weed control work along the North Star Rails to Trails.

Funding for this work comes from Trans Canada Trail, which is doling out $22,750 to trail groups in B.C.

The money comes from the organization’s Trail Care Grant program.

“These grants support the Trail where it really counts – at the local level. Trail groups can decide what their community needs most, while making their mark on this incredible national trail network,” says Mathieu Roy, CEO of Trans Canada Trail.

“It is inspiring to see such strong interest in a nationwide effort to care for the Trail that connects us all.”

The funding will be split between the following projects:

  • Debris cleanup on trails in N’Quatqua First Nation
  • Fixing erosion and resurfacing on the Tri-Cities Trail in Port Moody
  • Controlling noxious weeds on the North Star Rails to Trails in Cranbrook
  • Drainage and safety improvements on the Chilliwack River Valley Trail

Officials with Trans Canada Trail said the program will culminate with a national Trail Care Day on June 1, when volunteers across Canada get to work cleaning their local trail networks.
