Cranbrook getting ready for automated garbage collection

The City of Cranbrook is getting ready for its new automated garbage collection program with cart delivery starting soon.

Residents will receive their new garbage carts between May 9 and May 24.

Each residential property in Cranbrook will get one 240-litre wheeled cart, along with an information guide.

If you requested a smaller 120-litre cart, you will receive that instead.

City officials said each cart will be assigned to the property it is delivered to.

“Each cart is tagged and has its own serial number that is connected to each household,” said city officials. “It is important that garbage carts stay with the designated household, and residents who move do not take any garbage or recycling collection carts with them.”

Your cart will be delivered to the end of your driveway or walkway.

“We ask that you please remove the cart from this location and place it in a more secure area (ex: in your garage, backyard, or alternative location) until your collection day,” said city officials.

If you have not received your bin by May 27, you are asked to call 311.

“We ask for your patience during the cart delivery, as it takes time to coordinate and fulfill any additional requests we may receive during the initial roll-out,” said city staff.

Garbage collection will continue on a weekly basis, while recycling will remain on a bi-weekly schedule.

Cranbrook’s new automated collection will start operations on Monday, June 3.

“It is important that any garbage placed out for collection on, or after June 3, is only placed in the curbside garbage collection cart and placed at the curb for collection,” said city staff.
