Smells expected as Kimberley sewage clean-up work begins

Marysville residents will likely start noticing odours from the Pollution Control Centre as temperatures rise and bio-solid removal work begins.

“Bio-solids removal must be done in the spring and summer months,” said city officials.

“The process can be annoying to residents but is essential to ensure space for annual bio-solids accumulations.”

Other factors can contribute to the smell, such as chemicals and other substances being flushed or drained into the wastewater system.

“These chemicals reduce the PCC’s ability to break down bio-solids efficiently,” said city officials. “We urge the public to play a crucial role in this process by ensuring they are disposing of these substances properly and not flushing them down the toilet or releasing them down their drains.”

Marysville residents can expect weather and wind-dependent odours to linger through the spring and summer.
