The Columbia Valley RCMP is reminding the public to be wary of potential fraudsters.
This comes as RCMP officials said the detachment is continuing to receive complaints of telephone and online scams.
“Most frauds start with someone contacting you and informing you of either an issue with an account of yours, with an offer, or claiming you have already been a victim of a fraud,” said police officials. “In all cases, always ensure you are speaking with who they claim to be.”
Officials said reputable companies or organizations will not contact you and ask for personal information or ask that you purchase gift cards as a form of payment.
“In 2023 a total of $554 million was lost to fraud in Canada,” said Columbia Valley RCMP.
