Police are investigating a collision along Highway 3 that claimed the life of a man from Alberta.
Just before 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan 17, Elk Valley RCMP and BC Highway Patrol responded to a report of a serious collision near the junction of Highway 3 and 93.
Police officials said two pedestrians associated with an unrelated collision were seriously injured after they were struck by a passing vehicle.
“Although Elko Fire Department and BC Ambulance Service provided lifesaving efforts, a 28-year-old male from Alberta succumbed to his injuries,” said police officials. “A 24-year-old Alberta male was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. He has since been released.”
The driver involved in the accident remained at the scene, which kept the highway closed for several hours.
